Our
Bubble
“Our Bubble” was designed in commemoration of the 5 years since my mothers passing due to cervical cancer. In the time since she has died, the only time we get to spend together is inside of a non-tangible space that I call, our bubble. It is a space dedicated to just the two of us. I am sure that other people have their own bubbles that are shared with people who have passed and I like to think that somewhere in an alternate universe all of our bubbles just float around. For now, I will stick to celebrating our bubble with this piece.
To construct this piece, I used a lightweight tulle to construct the “bubbles” and hand gathered them to give each globe its body. To help the tulle maintain its sphere- the goal was to create a frame for each one with the help of a synthetic horsehair braid. For each of the models who would be inside the bubble, mini shorts and a custom corset have been designed. Implementing the use of the 3D forms conveys a sense of euphoric floating through space and time.
